Academic Office
Headmasters

Stephen Patsalos was born, raised and studied in the UK. He graduated from the University of East Anglia with a degree in Biological Sciences (BSc). He joined The Grammar School team in 2001 and was appointed as the Head of Biology and Science in 2006. In addition to this role, he also teaches A Level Biology.
Having wildlife as his passion, Stephen Patsalos has been an active member of the Environment Club and has organised several nature trail excursions around Cyprus for students. Moreover, he has been responsible for several science exchange programs both in Cyprus and France, along with coordinating the YRoNS programme in Hungary.

Costas Christoforou holds a BSc, MSc MEng, MBA from USA. Before joining The Grammar School Nicosia as a teacher of Physics in 1997, he was a teaching/research assistant at Southern Illinois University. His area of teaching/research included fluid mechanics, thermal science, and energy management. As a Grammar School Physics teacher, he has extensive experience in teaching IGCSE and A Level Physics.
He was promoted to Head of Physics in 2003. Since then, he has been a member of various school committees including academic, discipline, systems development, and teachers training. He attended numerous seminars on educational leadership, teachers’ performance, curriculum development, student assessment and classroom management.
He was appointed Headmaster in September 2022. His duties, among others, include digitalisation, process optimisation, data analysis, student affairs, discipline, and teachers’ evaluation.
Deputy Headmasters

Harry Christofi was born in London and has an MEd in English Language Teaching from Manchester University. He joined The Grammar School in 1994. In 2013 he became Head of English.
He has a proven track record of successfully managing resources and staff within the School to improve our educational services, thus providing the students and teachers with the educational environment to reach their goals.
In September 2022 he became Deputy Headmaster. An important aspect of his job is implementing discipline within the school.

Mrs. Lynch holds a Combined Honours degree in English and History from the University of Liverpool, as well as a Postgraduate qualification in English from the University of Manchester. Over the course of her career, she has served as an examiner for both Cambridge International Examinations and IELTS, gaining deep insight into assessment standards and international academic expectations.
Her work with the Royal College of Surgeons as a Lay Examiner has also given her valuable experience in understanding the demands of medical applications. This expertise significantly enhances the Medical Interview Preparation she provides to aspiring medical students.
Mrs. Lynch is a committed member of the Higher Education Advisory Team and a dedicated teacher of English Literature at The Grammar School, Nicosia, where she has taught since 1999. She has guided generations of students to excel in IGCSE, A Level, and university entrance examinations, including students securing places at leading universities across the UK, Europe, and the United States. Under her guidance, students have achieved exceptional results, including Highest in the World awards in A Level English Literature.
Originally from Liverpool, England, she brings a wealth of knowledge, passion, and international perspective to her teaching and guidance.
In addition to her teaching role, Mrs. Lynch leads the school’s Higher Education programme. She regularly visits universities across Europe and the UK, attends international Higher Education conferences, and maintains strong links with admissions teams to ensure students receive the most current and relevant guidance. She supports students through personalised meetings, interview preparation, and informed advice on IGCSE and A Level subject choices, contributing to the school’s strong record of global university placements and significant scholarship success.

He was promoted to Head of the Mathematics in 2011. He created the Mathematics Club and worked to digitalise his department. He is always very active in continuous professional development from abroad and in Cyprus. He manages interschool activities and university projects, building strong relationships with these institutions. He continues to share his enthusiasm, knowledge and experience with colleagues, students, and parents.
He was appointed as Deputy Headmaster in 2022.

Business Development Office

Tonia Galati Head of Business Development and Innovation:
Tonia oversees driving change and creating a culture of Innovative Technologies at the Grammar School Nicosia a private school in Cyprus. The School has established a professional learning system to the student using 1:1 Surface Tablets, STEM curriculum,
mobile and cloud technology. Tonia is also the Head of the Professional Development department of the school which oversees building professional capacity to teachers through various workshops, webinars and self-development training sessions.
Tonia is also the leader of the Robotics Academy Program which has as its missions to support the development, implementation and selective spread of innovative strategies for engaging students in experiences that will increase their awareness for robotics engineering as well as motivate students to pursue an education necessary to participate in an ICT career.
Tonia is also in charge of the ERASMUS+ Projects.
Tonia is Certified as a PRINCE2 Practionaire (Projects in Controlled Environments) part of the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) as a UK Government standard for IT project management and a qualified instructor for Cyprus National Human Resource Development Authority to deliver IT workshops and presentations. She was also the National Organizer chairperson for World Robot Olympiad 2015 Cyprus.

Alexis Mikellides Head of Robotics Department. Alexis is charge of the Robotics Department at the School. Alexis is also involved in designing STEM curriculum for our school and also a member of the Professional Development Department. He has been involved in teacher and student trainings as a teacher assistance for the past 9 years. Part of his role is to find ways to implement STEM and robotics with existing subject lessons and curriculum. Alexis is responsible in evaluating the progress and monitoring the effect that STEM curriculum has in comparison with existing curriculum. He is also responsible for designing STEM trainings using innovative teaching methods for teachers as part of the Innovative Department.

Persia Xenopoulou is a Computer Science teacher with over a decade of experience in designing engaging lessons and contributing to innovative teaching practices. For the past four years, she has been an active member of the Business Development and Innovation Department at The Grammar School Nicosia, where she serves as a Project Coordinator supporting forward-thinking initiatives across the school and Erasmus+ projects.
Driven by a strong passion for global learning, Persia established the Erasmus+ Club at The Grammar School, which has grown to over 100 student members and organises a wide range of Erasmus+ activities and events.

George Stavrou
Head of AccountingAfter graduating from the Pancyprian Lyceum in Larnaca George Stavrou followed his studies in New York, USA. In 1985 he graduated from Nassau Community College with an Associate degree. He continued his studies at New York Tech University, graduating in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. In 1992 he became a Fellow Member of Financial Accountants. In the years 1988-1992 he worked as a teacher at St. Joseph School of Larnaca and Nicosia and Terra Santa College. He has been a teacher at The Grammar School since 1992 and was promoted to Head of the Department in September 2008.

Head of ChemistryIacovos Hadjitofis graduated from The Grammar School, Nicosia in 1985. He was awarded the degree of BSc in Chemistry from the University of Kentucky (USA) in 1992. He joined The Grammar School staff in September 1992. While working as a Grammar School teacher, Iacovos Hadjitofis pursued and obtained the degree of Master of Education (MEd) from Trenton State University (USA) in 1996. Constantinos Timinis
Head of ComputersConstantinos Timinis holds a BSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a minor in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Cyprus, and an MSc in Applied and Molecular Physiology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Medical School. In 2018, he was awarded a CASE Studentship by University College London (UCL), where he is currently pursuing his PhD. Constantinos joined The Grammar School in 2020 and was appointed Head of the Computers Department in 2024. His research interests focus on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and User-Centred Design.

Head of EconomicsVasso Georgiades studied for a Bachelor and a Master’s degree in Economics at the University of London and completed the Post Graduate teachers training programme (PGCE) in Economics and Business at the Institute of Education (University of London). She is officially registered as a teacher with the Department of Education and Employment of England and Wales and taught in several secondary schools in London. She has been a teacher at The Grammar School since 2002, in 2022 assumed the position of educational trips coordinator and in 2023 she was appointed as Head of the Economics Department.

Christina Lederer
Head of Social Sciences DepartmentChristina Lederer is a Grammar School graduate and studied law (LLB Law, LLM International Commercial and Business Law) at the University of East Anglia in the UK.
She qualified as a lawyer in Cyprus in 2001 and worked as an attorney in law and accounting firms in Cyprus until 2008 when she began teaching law at the Grammar School. She enjoys legal writing and has written the Grammar School law textbooks and is in the process of more legal writing.
She also teaches company and contract law at the University of Nicosia and is authorized to offer investment advice after passing the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (Revised) Advanced Examination. She speaks Greek, English and German.

Head of MathematicsStavri Hadjivasiliou graduated from The Grammar School in 2001 and returned to join the institution as a Mathematics teacher in 2005. In 2021, she was designated as a member of the scheduling office, and in 2024, she was appointed as both the Head of Mathematics and the Scheduling Officer.
